GuQingPei was awakened by the telephone’s ringing tone. When he opened his eyes, he realized his surrounding had darkened. He was only barely able to see that he is still in the living room by the bit of moonlight seeping from the windows.
He fell asleep or he could have passed out from the fever. His body felt as if it was being weighed down by a stone; he couldn’t even lift his fingers. His head throbbed painfully, as if it was going to crack apart. Reluctantly, he reached out and touched the phone on the coffee table and pressed the answer key, “Hello?”
His voice sounded, but it was very hoarse.
YuanYang, on the other line, could hear his raspy voice. The words he had wanted to say, he retracted. His heart tightened, “Are you okay?”
“Have a cold probably,” GuQingPei murmured weakly, “Bring me some medicine.”
“Wait for me,” YuanYang instantly hung up. Grabbing his car keys, he rushed out without changing his clothes and wearing only slippers.
GuQingPei gasped heavily, feeling a burst of dizziness, he groggily fell back asleep.
Not knowing how much time had passed, the doorbell started to ring continuously, sounding very urgent.
GuQingPei is extremely annoyed by the sound. He tried with all his effort to pull himself up from the couch and staggered to open the door.
When he saw YuanYang, he was startled. The fever had gotten him so muddled up that he simply forgot that he was just talking to YuanYang on the phone. Actually, he didn’t even know who he was talking to at the time. He just felt like he was going to become delirious from this fever so he instinctively asked for help.
YuanYang grabbed onto his waist, supporting his wobbly body and lifted him up bridal style. Then, carried him toward the bedroom.
GuQingPei glanced at him, “Oh, it’s you.”
Looking at GuQingPei’s abnormally inflamed flushed face, a fire lit up in YuanYang’s heart, “Who else could it be?”
He put GuQingPei on the bed and asked, “Didn’t even tell me that you have a fever, if I didn’t call you, were you just going to let yourself burn to death?”
GuQingPei flung his head to the side, “Pour me a glass of water.”
Seeing GuQingPei’s frail state, yet refusing to show weakness, YuanYang’s heart felt pained. He poured a cup of water and propped GuQingPei’s head up so he could drink.
GuQingPei heaved a sigh, looking uncomfortably feeble.
YuanYang removed the suit GuQingPei was wearing. His entire body had drenched through from sweating, even his dampened underwear is tightly congealed against his body with his manhood arched into a translucent bulge beneath his underwear. His entire body looking as pale as transparent powder covered with the sexual tracings YuanYang left on him yesterday. Seeing him like this, weakly lying in bed, powerless to resist, really makes a person’s blood inflamed.

He put his hand to feel GuQingPei’s feverish forehead and called for his personal doctor.
Hanging up the phone, a nice and warm hand grabbed onto his wrist. YuanYang lowered his head and sees GuQingPei looking at him with dampened eyes like that of a little deer, asking him, “Why were you looking for me?”
“Ask me that again when you wake up, it’s not that important.”
“There is a meeting today.” Every word that GuQingPei said, he would laboriously take a few breaths, “I hope it’ll get approved.”
“At this time, you’re still thinking about work,” YuanYang sat on the head of the bed, stroking GuQingPei’s hair, his fingers moving ever so softly and gently, treating it like the most fragile and vulnerable thing in the world, “I’m most annoyed with you being like this, as if work is more important than life. “I’m leaving.” The young doctor blinked at him and jokingly warned, “Make love in moderation, just one look and anyone can tell he’s a refined gentleman. Keep your roguish tendencies to yourself…ahhh… this is Director Gu, right? He’s pretty good looking.”
YuanYang wanted to kick him, “Fuck off.”
“Hey, this Saturday night PengFang asked us to go drinking.”
“I know, fucking hurry up and leave.”
After the doctor left, YuanYang sat on the bed and motionlessly guarded GuQingPei like the most faithful puppy.
It was two hours later that GuQingPei was finished with the IV drip. YuanYang set up the next bag, then he gently turned him over to remove his pants.
GuQingPei’s private part is really inflamed. YuanYang regretted a bit. He really went overboard last night. When he heard GuQingPei personally admit that he was not with anyone else in the last two years, he was so elated that he couldn’t control himself. YuanYang took a shower in the bathroom to calm down. Then he made a meal and tidied up GuQingPei’s home a bit. GuQingPei murmured, “It’s not that I don’t want.”
“Huh?”
“Not that I don’t want……..”
“What is that?”
GuQingPei licked his dry lips and closed his eyes again, as if he were asleep.
YuanYang heaved a sighed and put the rest of the porridge in the small bowl to the side. He cradled GuQingPei as they lay back down onto the bed, gently caressing his back, “Sleep.”
The two men embraced as they slept, each was able to find the strength of warmth and comfort from one another.
The two was awakened by the sun’s glaring light the next day.
GuQingPei opened his eyes and felt that his fever had subsided a whole lot, but his head still hurt.
As soon as he moved, GuQingPei awakened and YuanYang stared at him, “You’re up? Feeling a little better?”
GuQingPei nodded, “Much better.” His gradually regained lucidness enabled him to finally feel a hint of awareness that he was still in YuanYang’s embrace. Very slowly, he pulled apart to create a distance between YuanYang, “When did you come yesterday?”
“You don’t remember?”
“I don’t remember when.” GuQingPei turned his head to the side and softly murmured, “Thanks.”
YuanYang lifted his mouth in a smile, “Don’t need to thank me. After all, it’s my fault. You got a fever because I overdid it.”
GuQingPei stared at him. His dampened eyes combined with this weakened expression, just a glance at him, he didn’t seem to have the usual ‘Director Gu’s’ demeanor. Instead, there is a trace of him appearing like a spoiled child.
YuanYang was so teased that he couldn’t wait to strip GuQingPei’s clothes.
GuQingPei turned over, “I need to drink some water. Then get me something to eat.”

GuQingPei said, “Didn’t you say that you’re responsible when I’m sick? Hurry up and go get it.”
YuanYang lightly laughed, and voiced softly, “Do you still remember? After we did it the first time, you also had a fever.”
GuQingPei’s lightly knitted his brows, “I don’t remember.”
“You can’t possibly forget. I won’t let you forget.” YuanYang hugged him tightly and whispered, “Don’t fall asleep. I’m going to go heat up the food.”
YuanYang got off the bed and walked toward the door. As GuQingPei opened his eyes and sees YuanYang’s back, his heart surged with indescribable emotions. When YuanYang is with him, he no longer felt that the home is empty or lonesome. He felt that even when he is sick and can’t get up from the bed, but with YuanYang present, there is nothing for him to worry about.
In his 30 plus years of life, he has always played the male role of the caretaker, with others dependent on him. It is only when YuanYang is present that he could be a little lazy. And only when YuanYang is present that he will allow himself to be a little lazy.
After all these years, YuanYang is actually the only person he could trust.
