Tit For Tat (Beloved Enemy) - Chap 108
When the two separated breathlessly, they noticed something unusual from the other person’s eyes. An intense and indescribable atmosphere lingered around the two people, stirring up emotions from their hearts that they never have.
GuQingPei was the first one to be unable to accept such an intense atmosphere, his heart is clamoring for something. He was going to lose control rapidly. Very quickly, he moved his face away, pretending to be calm, “I need to make a phone call.” After saying that, he called his assistant.
YuanYang stared at him for a long time before moving his eyes away from GuQingPei’s face.
The feeling that the kiss gave him was different. It was as if in that instant, the two men had returned to the scene from two to three years ago. When they kissed, it was full of passion and affections, just like how it was just now. The reminiscences of the past attacked his heart. In that moment, he felt that GuQingPei also felt it. He did not believe that for the year they lived together that it didn’t matter to GuQingPei. He did not believe that GuQingPei had completely forgotten him. He bet that GuQingPei still has feelings for him.
GuQingPei’s assistant reported on the work progress from the last two days. Then, GuQingPei briefed him on a few tasks. They talked for nearly ten minutes before they hung up.
YuanYang also regained his calmness, “I’ve seen your little assistant. He’s pretty good looking. So, you picked him according to your taste?”
“That’s not it, I noticed him at a glance when he came for the interview.”
YuanYang glanced at him, “Are you wanting to be an old cow eating young grass(T/N)?”
T/N: Old cow eating young grass means a romance relationship with one man significantly older than the other.
GuQingPei sneered, “He’s the same age as you. If I really wanted to eat, he wouldn’t have been the first one.”
“You dare,” YuanYang glared at him.
GuQingPei turned his head. The sunlight from the window outside reflected on his face. He slightly narrowed his eyes; the corner of his mouth raised into a faint smile.
YuanYang gripped his chin and pulled his face toward him, “Did you use software to block my monitoring?”
GuQingPei remembered that he had asked his assistant to help him with this, “What? How am I wrong to maintain my privacy?”
“I didn’t say that you are wrong, but did you think that these little petty acts are going to work?”
GuQingPei teased, “If it doesn’t work then you won’t be talking all this nonsense to me. This money is well spent.”
YuanYang no longer continued with this topic. Modern science has truly invented many awesome technological products. He just wanted to know where GuQingPei is at anytime and anywhere. He did so two years ago. This way, he can feel that he is still in control of GuQingPei’s every moves. Now it has become a habit. Once GuQingPei break away from his control, he will feel depressingly anxious.
His lack in security is all thanks to GuQingPei.
YuanYang touched GuQingPei’s forehead, “Go sleep for a while. You don’t feel as hot as yesterday.”
GuQingPei glanced at him and softly murmured, “You should rest too. Don’t just watch over me, I can’t sleep like that.”
“I have to watch over you in case you keep moving. I still have to give you a shot shortly.” Without further explanation, YuanYang lay on the bed and hugged GuQingPei from behind, “Telling you to sleep so just sleep. Hurry up and get well, I’m still waiting for you to pay for it on my end.”
Even though he is awake right now, GuQingPei did not object to YuanYang’s actions. He’ll just pretend like the fever had made him confused. It is only then that he could have such harmony with YuanYang. He felt that feeling muddled-minded wasn’t so bad after all.
GuQingPei rested for another day before his fever finally went away. But he still had a constant cough and his face looked deathly pale. Even so, he could no longer sit still, insisting on returning to the company.
In order to care for him, YuanYang also did not go to his company for three days. After he dropped GuQingPei off, he left.
GuQingPei immediately went to work the minute he returned to the company. Everyone seeing him work while still sick became very motivated. What made him very please, was that there was a breakthrough in the project during his absence.
GuQingPei delegated all the necessary work, then he reconvened with his key staff for a final discussion on the issue regarding investing in the shares ownership of the Worker’s labor credit union. If everyone supports this resolution, then GuQingPei will bring his staff to meet with YuanYang to negotiate the contract details.
Contrary to GuQingPei’s expectations, everyone agreed with this investment. GuQingPei himself is very optimistic about this project.
Before he got off work, he called YuanYang and told him the news. YuanYang softly laughed a few times on the other line, then said, “I won’t disappoint you.”
They agreed to meet to discuss the cooperation details tomorrow. GuQingPei had intended to personally attend this meeting. However, he did not expect to get a call in the afternoon from WangJin’s wife, also his boss in Singapore, requesting him to go to Shanghai to help lead the progress of the X-bank’s letter of credit. Since he is the one with the most knowledge of the company’s state of affairs, and it is also in China, obviously he is the most suitable person for this task. GuQingPei could not refuse. He flew to Shanghai the next morning and instead, sent the chief financial officer and his deputy to meet up with YuanYang.
Immediately when he arrived in Shanghai, YuanYang called him, “What the hell is going on? Didn’t you agree to personally come today? Why the hell are you going to Shanghai?”
GuQingPei had just gotten off the plane so he was feeling extremely exhausted from this traveling, adding on that he hadn’t yet fully recovered from his illness. He was in a really bad mood as he angrily retorted, “Why are you still monitoring where I go?”
“Are you afraid that I know where you are? Didn’t you just leave to go do some work for WangJin’s wife? You really have deep affections for your Wang Ge, even taking care of all his wife’s’ business.”
GuQingPei said quickly, “YuanYang, I don’t have time to bullshit with you. What I’m busy with has nothing to do with you. I don’t depend on your salary. If there is nothing else, I’m going to hang up.”
“There is, there’s no progress in discussing with the people you sent. Don’t ask them to come and waste my time. When are you coming back? Come find me to talk when you return.”
“Maybe three days later.”
YuanYang’s voice is a bit gloomy, “For what reason do you treat WangJin so well?”
GuQingPei solemnly replied, “In my most difficult time, he helped me. Do you know when my most difficult time was? Right…it was the period before I left to Singapore, when both you and your dad forced me into a corner with no way out!”
YuanYang is silent all of a sudden.
“Don’t tap on my phone again. Stop trailing where I go. Stop controlling who I talk to, what I do for whom. All this you can’t control, can’t control!” GuQingPei resentfully hung up.
The rarely harmonious and calm atmosphere that existed between the two people during his illness seem to have completely disappeared.
He felt an insufferable pain rise up in his heart.
Why do YuanYang always use such extreme measures to deal with him? What does YuanYang want from him? GuQingPei sighed. He really has no clue.
The job that was expected to take three days ended up dragging for a week. After WangJin found out, he personally went to Shanghai. In order to thank GuQingPei, he sold the import quota of 10,000 tons of rice to GuQingPei at a very good price. GuQingPei didn’t have time to deal with this so he immediately turned around and sold it, earning net profit of one to two million yuan. An unexpected profitable business transaction made GuQingPei feel very enthusiastic in helping his former boss in finalizing the approval for the Letter of Credit.
When he returned to Beijing, he received the news that YuanYang and YaoShin Securities have collaborated in the Worker’s labor credit union shares and have acquired 28% of the shares. He saw in the paper that YuanYang’s company have become the third largest shareholder of Yaoshin Securities. There was a picture of YuanYang and the CEO of YaoShin Securities smiling and shaking hands, with LiuYiWen dressed in perfect business attire standing beside him with a smile. The composition of the picture was great, encouraging these financial reporters to dig deeper into this powerful collaboration and at the same time, crush the rumors that Yaoshin Securities is under a crisis of credibility. The picture also gave the impression to the others that “this is the most convincing scene of the son-in-law meeting the father-in-law.”
GuQingPei glanced at the young and handsome YuanYang and then at the beautiful and elegant LiuZiWen, it’s no wonder that the reporters are so excited, seeing that the two people looking perfectly well-matched. If he appeared on the same photo with YuanYang, others would not have thought of anything other than business related matters.
Regardless of how ambiguous YuanYang treats him or how perverted he is, it still could not change the fact that he has a girlfriend and had publicized it.
He even told him that he’ll send him an engagement invitation.
GuQingPei laughed at himself…laughed at his wandering imagination…laughed at his unsettling heart.
The next morning, he took his own people to meet with YuanYang. This is the first time he went to YuanYang’s company. The twenty-two-story corporate building occupying the most prosperous part of the Central Business District really illustrated YuanYang’s great achievements in the past two years.
He had always thought that YuanYang is very smart. As long as YuanYang is willing to work hard, he wouldn’t lose to YuanLiJiang. However, YuanYang’s development has far exceeded his expectations. As he was lamenting, he also felt a bit jealous.
Two years ago, he would not have thought that one day he would be sitting in YuanYang’s office having business negotiations with him. The two-year period was actually very short, but it really changed everything.
The two parties discussed the terms of the contract one by one. GuQingPei still won the battle in terms of his persuasion skills, but the need to do so was unnecessary because the terms of the contract proposed by YuanYang were already very favorable to them. No matter which angle he looked at this, there was no need to dispute, otherwise it’ll just seem like he was too greedy.
The subordinates that GuQingPei brought along with him were very excited. They did not know that their boss’ relationship with YuanYang was very deep. They only thought that YuanYang is really shrewd, sacrificing small profits to win bigger profits, which really was good for both parties.
So the negotiation meeting ended in less than an hour. GuQingPei was planning on returning to the office with his people for further analysis. With no other obstructions, they should be able to sign the contract within three days. YuanYang’s only requirement is that the contract be signed as soon as possible. He obviously intends to take the lead before YuanLiJiang finds out.
When GuQingPei was going to leave with his subordinates, YuanYang stopped him, “Director Gu, there’s no hurry, I’ll treat you to a meal.”
GuQingPei deliberately glance at his watch, “Director Yuan, my apologies, I have a commitment tonight, lets change it to another day?”
“Then, I’ll take you there. I just have something to say to you privately. Since you don’t have time for dinner, we’ll just talk in the car. In any case, it’ll take you about an hour to get there from here.”
In front of all his subordinates, GuQingPei really can’t refuse, so he went along with him.
As soon as the two men entered the car, YuanYang immediately revealed his bucktooth fangs, pushing GuQingPei against the seat and asking him, “How was it like playing with your Wang Ge in Shanghai?”
Hearing this ironic tone naturally pissed GuQingPei off. He scolded, “It’s very good. Took care of everything and collected something cheap.”
YuanYang obviously knew that GuQingPei is deliberately making him angry. Yet he still can’t help but got angry anyway, “GuQingPei, in this world, there is nobody as flawed as you.”
“YuanYang, in this world, it’s likely impossible to find anyone who could torment people as much as you.”
YuanYang gripped his chin and stared at him for a long time, then leaned close to kiss him.
The moment their lips were to touch, GuQingPei’s mind immediately flashed the image of YuanYang and LiuZiWen coming out holding hands. He turned his face away.
YuanYang looked at him, “It’s just a kiss, why are you being so awkward.”
GuQingPei gave him an aloof look, “Not interested, ok? Just take me home.”
YuanYang released him and mocked, “Didn’t you have commitment tonight?”
GuQingPei ignored him.
YuanYang decisively drove them to a vegetarian restaurant. He pulled GuQingPei out of the car, “Let’s have dinner here tonight. You’ve just recovered from being sick; this is most suitable for you to eat right now.”
GuQingPei didn’t say anything as he followed YuanYang into the restaurant.
As the two were eating, GuQingPei initiated talks about business related topics because he knew that as long as the two ventured into personal matters, it’s guaranteed that they would end up bickering.
It seems that YuanYang is also aware of this point, so they just chatted along.
GuQingPei have always wondered how YuanYang would be able to get the controlling shares from YuanLiJiang hands. However, YuanYang refused to tell him, only saying that this matter requires his cooperation. To put it plainly, he had to get the money for it before YuanLiJiang.
GuQingPei suspects that this might involve matters that are probably too confidential. YuanYang would not be able to tell him so he didn’t push the issue. Despite this being a huge collaboration, GuQingPei did not feel worried. He knew that he trusts YuanYang. No matter what YuanYang does, he would not deceive him.
Two days later, GuQingPei gathered all the proper documentations and signed a formal contract with YuanYang. Following, they will be starting to conduct the transaction of transferring the land as investment to the Worker’s labor credit union. However, what remains in contention is the percentage of shares the land is worth.
The first time they communicated with the Secretary-General of the Entrepreneurs Association, he revealed that he was only willing to give them 15% of the shares. Of course, this does not meet the expectations of YuanYang and GuQingPei.
GuQingPei’s property is comprised of a very large area of land, surrounded by mountains and seas. It’s in an extremely lucrative geographical location, suitable for development into a premium resort. The biggest drawback currently is that the property is a forest. If it can be converted into tourism land, the return on price per acre is at least ten times. GuQingPei has always been working on land denaturalization and has already achieved results. With his and YuanYang’s abilities, they can certainly change the nature of the land within two years. By then, the value of this land would not just be matched with 15-20% of stocks.
But the main point is that they have not yet started with the denaturalization, all this potential is imaginary. So the Entrepreneurs Association is using this point in desperately suppressing the prices.
After talking to the Secretary-General, the two men returned to their own companies to convene meetings for further analysis. Because GuQingPei and YuanYang had been in a working relationship for a year before, they have very good understanding of each other’s work habits. Communication and cooperation naturally flowed smoothly as it was before.
GuQingPei emotionally sighed. If his and YuanYang’s livelihood can be as harmonious as they are at work, the contradiction between them can be easily solved.
At this time, both were extremely busy, like a spinning top that keeps turning, actively promoting the project that would net them great benefits. In a month, they’ve only met twice and it was all related to work.
Finally, forty days after signing the contract, they reached an agreement with the Entrepreneurs’ Association. GuQingPei’s property would be transferred over for 20% of the shares; this along with YuanYang and his collaboration with Yaoshin Securities; they indirectly control 48% of the shares, far exceeding any other shareholders. Once the contract is signed, YuanYang would become the largest shareholder of the Worker’s labor credit union.
Needless to say, they are all looking forward to the day the contract was signed.
