Tit For Tat (Beloved Enemy) - Chap 41
The two men arrived in XX city on Thursday. XX is a prosperous coastal city with a well developed economy and a high number of skyscrapers.
Lawyer Zhao from the representing case’s law firm personally arranged for a driver to pick them up at the airport and take them to their hotel.
Lawyer Zhao booked two rooms for them. The three of them discussed business matters late into the evening in GuQingPei’s room, talking about the key points from the progression of the case. They were preparing to meet with some of the leaders from the judicial system referred by Lawyer Zhao.
It wasn’t until 10pm at night that Lawyer Zhao left.
YuanYang didn’t plan on returning to his own room. He naturally stayed in GuQingPei’s room.
After GuQingPei took a shower, he checked all the relevant documents on his laptop and took care of some other business matters. He had endless things to do and even though it is hard work, he enjoyed this kind of fulfillment.
YuanYang came out of the shower and saw that he was still staring at the laptop screen, “It’s already 11 o’clock, you’re still not sleeping yet?”
“I still have to take care of a few things,” GuQingPei responded with his slender fingers pounding on the keyboard.
YuanYang added, “I’ve thought about it carefully. Although the vice president promised to sign the papers, he must be under tremendous pressure as the head of the provincial bureaus. I’m guessing that he didn’t want to offend both sides so he initially disagreed, but is now forced to by us. But, whether he will really sign in the end is still a problem.”
GuQingPei nodded, “When it will be signed is a troubling matter. If this keeps dragging, the verdict won’t come and we’ll still incur losses. We need to find the leader and keep pressuring him for a quick verdict. Only after the verdict is decided can this case be considered settled.”
YuanYang climbed in bed and actually used his head to push the laptop off of GuQingPei’s lap. Then he put his head on his thighs, “This will be resolved. I’m still waiting for you to give me a bonus.”
GuQingPei smiled, “It’s good that you remember it. If this is not taken care of, I won’t even give you a dime.”
YuanYang scoffed, “If you don’t give me the money, I’ll just continue to eat and sleep at your place.”
“You really have no shame to say that.”
YuanYang wrapped his arm around GuQingPei’s neck to lower his head; then kissed his lips.
GuQingPei allowed YuanYang to kiss him for a moment. Then patted his face, “We still have meetings tomorrow, let’s sleep.”
YuanYang sat up, looking at him with his big tail wagging, “You don’t want to do it?”
“Do my ass, what time is it? We still have work to do tomorrow.”
YuanYang was quite disappointed. In the end, he finally fell asleep; however, his hands and feet weren’t behaving so it wasn’t until after 1 am that GuQingPei could finally sleep.
The next morning at 10 o’clock, they met with the leader of the provincial bureau in a secret cafe and carefully communicated the progress of the case. The situation is still in their favor and the outlook seemed optimistic.
They invited the leader for a meal. Afterwards, Lawyer Zhao had a commitment to attend and had to leave first. GuQingPei and YuanYang rushed back to the hotel. In the taxi, they received a phone call from Lawyer Zhao. He informed them that the other party has now submitted a reconciliation request. However, GuQingPei was dissatisfied with the proposed terms so he had no intentions to negotiate with the other party, instead he will continue to suppress the terms.
Lawyer Zhao said with a bit concern, “Did the other party get some news? Otherwise, how could it be that we’ve just met up with someone in the morning and they are already asking for reconciliation in the afternoon?”
“Not necessarily. It may be that they sensed the pressure and felt that they will lose the case so they want to reconcile.”
“Well, that’s possible but their reconciliation terms are not at all sincere. Who will agree to these conditions? They are too greedy.”
GuQingPei sneered, “Right, we certainly can’t agree to this. However, if the terms are reasonable, we don’t need to push people too hard. That could force them to use dirty tricks and make matters even worst. So reconciliation is also a way. Give the other party a call and lower it twenty points. In this matter, we have the upper hand. If they don’t agree with this, then we’ll just wait for the verdict to be decided. They won’t even get a dime.”
After hanging up the phone, YuanYang asked him, “Do you think the other party would agree?”
“They should, the main issue is with compensation.”
YuanYang groaned, “Them requesting for reconciliation right after we have just met with the leader this morning, do you think this is a coincidence? How could they get the news so fast? I don’t think this matter is so simple.”
GuQingPei also furrowed his brows, “This can’t be confirmed right now, let’s see how Lawyer Zhao’s discussion went with them. The other party is said to have some connections to the mobs. We still have to be careful not to cause Chairman Yuan any problems.”
After the two men returned to the hotel, they changed out of their clothes and planned to go out for a stroll.
XX city is a very beautiful resort city. It just so happens that they didn’t have any plans in the afternoon. It is rare to see the winter sun out. It would be such a pity to not stroll around the beach.
With them staying at a hotel that had a view of the sea, the beach is merely just three minutes from their rooms. Although the sun was warm, the seaside wind was extremely strong. There were not many people out. The two walked along the beach and talked about the case.
After talking a while, YuanYang suddenly asked, “You dare to say that you have nothing to talk to me about? Haven’t we talked for a long time now?”
GuQingPei was stunned and then smirked, “That’s because you’ve started to be engrossed in work. If you’re still just fooling around not giving a care, I’d have nothing to say to you.”
YuanYang’s curled his lips, “I didn’t say that I won’t work.”
“Oh, did you forget what happened when you first started.”
YuanYang pinched his face, “I’m giving you face because you’ve been serving young master, me, quite well. As long as you’re obedient, I will work hard.”
GuQingPei swatted his hand away and smiled, shaking his head.
Being with YuanYang, he still couldn’t get rid of that feeling of taking care of a child, but YuanYang’s fierce intensity in bed is a far cry from the image of a “child.” These two very extreme contrasts have always made him feel strange in front of YuanYang. It has to be said that the sudden change of behavior is also an attraction; at least sometimes he felt that YuanYang is also very interesting.
The two men walked along the beach for more than a kilometer before returning to the hotel.
After entering the beach area from their hotel, YuanYang knitted his brows and crouched down to shake his leg to get rid of the sand on the bottom of his pants.
GuQingPei stood next to YuanYang and looked at him. His impression of YuanYang is not one that is too concerned with personal hygiene.
YuanYang stood up, “Don’t look back, someone is following us.”
GuQingPei is startled but still remained very calm. The two walked forward as usual.
Arriving at the hotel’s lobby, they didn’t return to their room but instead had tea in the cafe.
“Are you sure?” GuQingPei asked while taking a sip of his tea. His eyes moved swiftly; he wanted to turn and look back, but was afraid of inadvertently alerting the enemy.
“I’m sure. Don’t look. You can’t see them from this angle,” YuanYang crossed his legs with a smile on his face, “I haven’t encountered something like this in a long time.”
GuQingPei said helplessly, “We are proper business people. Don’t use your military tactics here. Don’t cause trouble.”
“How am I the one causing trouble when it is someone else that is following us?” YuanYang rubbed the palm of his hand, “If the other party really sent people to follow us, then it wouldn’t be surprising for them to know that we met with the leader of the provincial bureau this morning.”
“Could it be that we were already being watched when we got off the plane?”
“Not necessarily. They might have been following Lawyer Zhao initially and not us. Otherwise, I would have noticed them this morning.”
GuQingPei’s hand patted the armrest, “What should we do now?”
“For the time being, don’t go back to the room, sit for a while and we go out for dinner. If they want to do anything, they won’t choose to do it in a hotel with cameras and people all around. It will be outside.” YuanYang was not the least bit nervous but actually looked on with anticipation.
GuQingPei reminded, “I repeat, don’t cause trouble.”
YuanYang grunted, “Why don’t you tell them.”
“I’m more worried about you acting recklessly.”
YuanYang gently squeezed his hand and raised his mouth in a smile, “Director Gu, are you scared? You got so nervous hearing that the other party has a dark background.”
GuQingPei narrowed his eyes to look at him, “I’m a law-abiding citizen and don’t want to be tainted with these things. But I’m not afraid.”
“Really not afraid?”
“Not afraid.” GuQingPei’s facial expression is very calm. Although he does not like violent conflicts, it’s not something he fears. In fact, the big rogue YuanYang is sitting here with him and he didn’t lose an arm or leg in the past three to four months. Those people may not be as hard to deal with as compared to YuanYang.
YuanYang grabbed his hand and smiled lightly, “That’s good, don’t worry, I’m here. They can’t hurt you.”
GuQingPei raised his eyebrow, “There’s finally some use for you.”
YuanYang slapped his hands and glared at him, “Bully me some more and I’m going to fuck you to death tonight.”
GuQingPei pulled his hand back and glance at his watch, “5 o clock. Let’s go out for dinner. What’s a good place?”
YuanYang narrowed his eyes, “We need to choose a really good place… ”
