Tit For Tat (Beloved Enemy) - Chap 56
GuQingPei postponed the meeting until 10:30.
He went to the company’s roof to get some fresh air to clear his mind. After a while, the depressive aura from his body started to dissipate.
YuanYang’s immaturity and insensible nature is often unbearable for him. He thinks that the reason why he and YuanYang can’t communicate is possibly because of this. He really can’t understand the mindset of a boy in his early twenties; nor does he want to understand how someone can do things so impulsively.
Thinking calmly, YuanYang will never be a suitable partner, regardless of whether this partner is him, GuQingPei, or someone else.
GuQingPei’s hand held on the handrail as he looked out at the office buildings in front of him. His mood was the same as being sheltered in a concrete jungle t/n. There is no openness at all with only a narrow gap left. If he was to only separate out YuanYang’s matters, it will be congested and impassable.
T/N Concrete Jungle: An urban or other populated area containing high density of buildings constructed of concrete or similar materials, especially one which lacks greenery and which seems unattractive, harsh, or unsafe.
The troubles that YuanYang have caused him have far surpassed any difficult project or any difficult work partner. He can’t use experience, knowledge, or even common sense win. He was either foolishly enraged by YuanYang or he was foolishly emotionally touched by YuanYang.
YuanYang’s existence have made him conflicted, very deeply conflicted.
GuQingPei went downstairs when it was almost time for his meeting.
All the attendees have already arrived. And as usual, YuanYang sat in the last row. From the moment GuQingPei entered the room, YuanYang’s eyes piercingly followed him until he sat in the center position.
Throughout the entire meeting, GuQingPei did not glance at him once.
Feeling loss, YuanYang lowered his head.
Thinking of what happened just now, he (YuanYang) was still so angry that his fingertips are trembling. He didn’t expect GuQingPei’s reaction to be so extreme, going completely ballistic on him. It made him regret a bit. Originally, he had no intention of dealing with that woman, but seeing them hugging lit the rage within him. Adding on, ZhaoYuan’s status as GuQingPei’s ex-wife made him feel a bit agitated.
That woman may have been the only other person who had ever lived with GuQingPei besides him. She was even married to GuQingPei once and they were legally binding husband and wife. Merely by this point alone is something that he could never do in his entire life.
He is jealous of this ZhaoYuan.
Would there be such a day when GuQingPei would defend him like this and treat him with such a gentle attitude? YuanYang is so envious that his eyes are red.
After the meeting ended, it was lunch time.
GuQingPei had no appetite. He stayed in the office to watch the news.
After a while, YuanYang pushed the door open and walked in, his hand holding a tray.
YuanYang walked over and put the tray on the table, his voice lowered, “Eat.”
GuQingPei didn’t say a word; his expression didn’t even have the slightest fluctuation.
This is the first time for YuanYang to see GuQingPei with such chilling attitude. He was angry and anxious as he knocked on the table and ordered, “Hurry up and eat.”
GuQingPei finally looked up, “Not hungry, take it out.”
YuanYang started to get angry, “For something like that, you’re still angry? Be a man alright.”
GuQingPei remained unmoved and raised his chin in the direction of the tray, “Take it out.”
YuanYang slammed his fist on the table.
GuQingPei lifted his head and look at him coldly.
Under this gaze full of contempt, they were in a deadlock for a few seconds. Finally, YuanYang gave in as he lowered his head and very awkwardly muttered, “I’ll never say anything bad about her again, just eat.”
GuQingPei looked at him in surprise.
He had known YuanYang for so long and had never seen him concede. Even though he didn’t blatantly say it, GuQingPei could hear YuanYang’s compromising tone.
YuanYang’s cheeks turned hot seeing GuQingPei’s expression, “Hurry up and eat. It’s going to get cold. Aren’t you meeting with Director Wang to play golf this afternoon? How are you going to have the energy if you don’t eat?”
The gloominess in GuQingPei’s heart completely dissipated. He couldn’t help but smile, “You know that you’re wrong?”
YuanYang’s face turned red, “Bullshit, it’s so you will eat”
“YuanYang, this kind of apology is really hard to accept. But forget it. You willingly apologize is already an improvement. I’ll reluctantly accept.”
YuanYang gasped, his expression a little distorted as he gritted his teeth, “Hurry up and eat!”
GuQingPei took the tray and went to the sofa. Putting the tray on the coffee table, he then patted the seat next to him, “YuanYang, come and sit.”
YuanYang hesitated for a moment and went to sit next to him, his expression didn’t look too enthused.
GuQingPei envisions the little wolf dog with his droopy ears and lowered head sitting beside him dejectedly, yet still glared his eyes arrogantly.
GuQingPei repeated to himself three times, child needs to be taught. He slowly started to talk, “YuanYang, seeing me now, I might appear to be prestigious. But you know, when ZhaoYuan married me, I didn’t have a car or a house. I can’t even afford the down payment for a house. At that time, there were many people who liked her. Her parents also didn’t agree to our marriage but she married me anyway. Even so, I still failed her.”
YuanYang was a bit in a daze. This is the first time GuQingPei told him about his past; a past that he was not part of so he listened attentively.
GuQingPei heaved a sighed, “I told you before when I was a child, my personality is more introverted. In college, my concentration was in Petroleum refining so I didn’t have very many contact with women. After I got married, I wasn’t aware that I was gay. When I came to realize it, ZhaoYuan and I have already been married for a year. Nothing could turn back. ZhaoYuan truly loved me and I hastily married her. Yet, I couldn’t give her a carefree life. This is the biggest failure of my life. A divorced woman, past the age of 30, no matter how smart and beautiful she is, her chances of finding a suitable partner is still much lower than others. What I owe her, I won’t be able to pay back in my life. You only see that I care a lot about her, but did you ever think why? Have you ever imagined what it feels like to be forever indebted to someone?”
YuanYang lowered his head and couldn’t say anything, as if there is a fish bone stuck in his throat.
“Why do I say that we can’t communicate? You are not only impulsive and arrogant, you also never think about other people’s feelings; only doing things as you please. This is completely different from me. I can’t stand this self-centeredness in you and you can’t stand the hypocrisy and shrewdness in me. We have to change one way or another, or we will forever be caught in this cycle of opposing each other. I’m not going to change. YuanYang, I will never change how I am. If you want us to be able to peacefully continue on maintaining this relationship, then you have to change. Or it shouldn’t be said as “change” but “grow up.” If you don’t grow up, we will never be compatible. I can never be with you.”
YuanYang looked at him quietly, the darkness in the pupils of his eyes is like a deep pool with numerous thoughts hidden within.
GuQingPei resolutely muttered, “I’ve said so much, it is still the same thing. If you can understand it, then you can. If you can’t, then forget it.” He lowered his head and started to eat.
After a long time, YuanYang murmured, “If I change, what is the benefit?”
GuQingPei took out a napkin to wipe his mouth, “What do you think?”
“You tell me.”
GuQingPei responded, “You become more mature, the greatest benefit is to yourself. Your parents also won’t have to worry about you.”
YuanYang gripped his chin, his voice lowered, “That’s not enough. I need your eyes to only look at me, that WangJin, that ZhaoYuan, you completely ignore them all.”
GuQingPei faintly smiled, “If you really have this charm.”
YuanYang snorted, “You just wait, this WangJin is nothing. You don’t have to offer yourself to him like you did to me, I will exceed him.”
GuQingPei shook his head, “Stop bragging all the time and do something practical.” He continued to bow down to eat.
YuanYang was silent for a while. He put his head on GuQingPei’s arched back and in a low voice, “You’re not angry?”
“Oh.”
“What’s with the fucking ‘Oh’? Are you angry or not?”
GuQingPei didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, “Too lazy to be angry at you, it’s a waste of time”
“If you’re angry, just beat me. If not… then stop being like a mute in not talking to me.”
GuQingPei took a sip of his water and looked at him, “I am not angry at the moment, will see your performance in the future.”
Right after he finished speaking, YuanYang turned his head and kissed his lips.
YuanYang pinned him down onto the couch. Their soft lips thrashed against each other as they exchanged each other’s breath. Inside the moist mouth, their two tongues were intertwined like snakes; transparent body fluids flowed down the corner of GuQingPei’s mouth.
YuanYang’s hand naughtily reached into GuQingPei’s clothes.
GuQingPei grabbed his hand and said breathlessly, “We still have things to do this afternoon, stop messing around.”
YuanYang unsatisfactorily licked his lips and acted like a spoiled child, “Fine, we don’t have to do it but you have to take a nap with me. We haven’t taken a nap for several days.”
GuQingPei thought, just treat it as coaxing a child.
“Fine, we’re only taking a nap.”
YuanYang excitedly carried GuQingPei from the sofa to the break room.
GuQingPei felt so awkward, “Okay, put me down, I need to change.”
YuanYang pushed him down onto the bed and kissed him wildly with his hands urgently pulling at his clothes, “I’ll help you change.”
His hands movements were becoming more and more erotic; obviously it’s not as simple as changing clothes.
GuQingPei was both envious and jealous of YuanYang’s physical strength. They had just madly made love last night. He had yet to fully recover from it and YuanYang was already brimming with vigor and vitality. The gap in their age is really cruel.
GuQingPei can’t bear to do it again. Otherwise, he won’t be able to do anything today. He shoved YuanYang a few times but still couldn’t get him to budge. So he could only moderately pat his head, “What did we just say? We’re just going to nap.”
YuanYang hesitated for a long time and finally reluctantly got off him.
GuQingPei changed into his pajamas and lay back down on the bed. Then he took the initiative to move close to YuanYang, “Sleep, let’s rest, going to be busy this afternoon.”
YuanYang hugged him, and as usual, buried his face in the crook of his neck, as if he didn’t need to breathe.
GuQingPei sighed. YuanYang has a contradictory complex; sometimes he’s cute, sometimes he’s hateful, so when these two collide, it would make GuQingPei hesitate incessantly in dealing with YuanYang.
Not only can he not see through YuanYang at this moment, he also can’t even see through his own heart.
