Tit For Tat (Beloved Enemy) - Chap 66
Beloved Enemy Chapter 66
FEBRUARY 8, 2019 ~ ROSYSPELL
On the third day of the Lunar year, GuQingPei returned to Beijing. YuanYang went to pick him up at the airport.
No matter how YuanYang tried to hide it, GuQingPei could still feel that something was not quite right with him. GuQingPei immediately asked when they got into the car, “What’s wrong with you? Looking so dejected. You didn’t sleep?”
“Yeah, too many social gatherings these few days.”
“It’s the New Years. That’s inevitable. But you don’t look tired to me. What is really going on? Some problem? Tell me.”
YuanYang shooked his head, “It’s nothing. I’m just tired, mentally tired.” This problem is not one that he could tell GuQingPei.
GuQingPei teased, “Hey, mentally tired? How old are you? I know that with your personality, you don’t like these kinds of socializing but these are things you can’t avoid. Don’t worry. We’re going to be flying to Saipan tomorrow morning. No one can bother you.” GuQingPei took off his coat and relaxingly stretched his arm, “We can fully enjoy it for two days.”
While GuQingPei was looking forward to it, YuanYang was mulling over a reason to cancel this trip.
Since two days have passed, LiWenYao may have news any moment. He can’t leave at this time. As soon as he gets new of LiuQiang’s movement, he needs to immediately take care of this asshole.
GuQingPei added, “My mom gave me a lot of good foods to bring back, we can take it on our trip.”
“Ahhh, okay.”
“Oh right. Has WangJin’s secretary responded to the email yet? It would be best if I can see WangJin tonight; otherwise, if we go for a week, I’m afraid it’ll cause some delays.”
“Ahh… I haven’t checked yet. Let’s talk later.”
“Check once we get back.” GuQingPei looked at YuanYang and creased his brows, “YuanYang, you’re really flustered. This is not like you. Something must have happened. If you were only annoyed with socializing, you’d be cussing the moment you saw me. Since you don’t want to say it, I won’t force you. But if it’s something to do with work, you can weigh it yourself. You don’t have to tell me, but you must ensure that you can solve it yourself.”
YuanYang’s hand fidgeted as he combed through his hair, “I’ll take care of it myself.”
GuQingPei nodded, “Fine, you solve it yourself.”
The atmosphere in the car turned gloomy, neither of them knew what to say; there was a hindrance in their heart that couldn’t be explained.
After arriving home, YuanYang grabbed GuQingPei’s luggage and followed him upstairs. GuQingPei didn’t want to his mood to be affected during the New Year’s so took the initiative to ask, “Have you eaten? I’ll make you a few of dishes from my hometown. I learned it when I was there.”
YuanYang’s body trembled as he lowered his head, “Okay.”
GuQingPei patted his face, “Be happy.”
YuanYang slanted his face, lowered his head to give him a kiss; a light peck but it was especially warm.
GuQingPei smiled and vaguely uttered, “Let’s get warm in the house.”
The elevator door opened.
GuQingPei’s house directly faces the elevator. When the two of them got out of the elevator, they immediately saw YuanLiJiang waiting at the door to GuQingPei’s house.
YuanYang’s face is livid, blood drained from GuQingPei’s face and his hand trembled.
YuanLiJiang looked at them calmly and lifted his hand to look at his watch, “Your flight must’ve been late? I expected you guys to have returned half an hour ago.”
“Dad, you…” YuanYang’s eyes widen, glaring directly at his old man; his eyes clearly conveyed a fierce warning.
YuanLiJiang waved his hand, seeming to tell him that he had not forgotten what he had promised. He looked at GuQingPei, “Director Gu, let’s have a chat?”
GuQingPei tried to swallow but he only felt cold sweat on his back.
He never dreamed that at the start of the New Year, as soon as he returned to Beijing, the bombshell that was waiting for him was the exposure of his and YuanYang’s relationship.
Seeing YuanYang’s expression, he’s likely to have already known. No wonder he was acting so strange today.
Everything has its reasonable explanation, but just how did YuanLiJiang find out about their relationship!
GuQingPei had always been worried about this scene happening. But people do have the tendency to think wishfully. Without it actually happening, one can’t help but want to escape the consequences. He was really not prepared to be facing YuanLiJiang’s condemnation. He just wanted to lift his leg and run.
Not only was he afraid, but he was also ashamed.
He’s living with his boss’s son and their ages are 11 years apart! In his life, there are two people he felt ashamed to face; one is his ex-wife ZhaoYuan and the other is the person who regarded him highly, YuanLiJiang.
It was not until this moment that GuQingPei came to realize what it meant and felt to be so ashamed that he wanted to find a hole to crawl into.
Clenching his fist, he forced himself to calm down. With his voice shaking, “Chairman Yuan, inside please.”
YuanYang immediately stepped in front of YuanLiJiang, “Dad, you should not be here.”
YuanLiJiang sternly responded, “You’re the one that shouldn’t be here!”
“Dad, you promised me…”
YuanLiJiang immediately slapped him on the face, “Shut up.”
YuanYang clenched his fist and slowly lowered his head.
GuQingPei opened the door and made an inviting gesture, “Chairman Yuan, please come in.”
YuanLiJiang glanced at him, his expression awkward and strange.
GuQingPei didn’t dare to look at him. He followed YuanLiJiang into the house. YuanYang stood stiffly for a long time and then also entered the house.
YuanLiJiang glanced around the house. When he thought of his son and GuQingPei living together in this place, his entire body felt unease, wanting to turn around and leave abruptly.
GuQingPei took a deep breath, “Chairman Yuan, let’s go into the study.”
YuanLiJiang glanced at him coldly as he followed him to the study.
YuanYang stepped forward but GuQingPei and YuanLiJiang both turned their heads at the same time, using their expressions to tell him not to come in.
Both of YuanYang’s hands clenched tightly, so tight his nails almost cut into this flesh.
“Chairman Yuan, please sit.” After GuQingPei closed the door, he gave the main seat to YuanLiJiang.
“No need. I’m going to leave after saying a few words,” YuanLiJiang glanced at him coldly, “Director Gu, the matter between the both of you, YuanYang had given me an explanation. I want to hear your version.”
GuQingPei sighed softly. He had always been a person that had a way with words and could speak with eloquence, but at this time, he didn’t know what to say. He could never mention to YuanLiJiang that he was drugged by YuanYang. That is even more shameful. But he could not find any other excuses. His mind is buzzing. He barely had the courage to look into YuanLiJiang’s eyes. The only thing he could say, “Chairman Yuan, I don’t know how to explain it.”
“How long? How long have you guys been living together?”
“About…three months.”
“You have been living with my son for about three months under my nose?” The hands behind YuanLiJiang’s back clenched into a fist, looking at GuQingPei’s expression; there was a trace of viciousness.
GuQingPei felt his mind weighing a ton, unable to be lifted. His voice shaking, “Chairman Yuan, I don’t have any disrespect toward you.”
“No disrespect toward me?” YuanLiJiang sneered aloud, “What the both of you have done is even more intolerable than slapping me in public. You dare to talk to me about respect nor disrespect.”
GuQingPei felt so miserably awkward that he just wanted to disappear.
YuanLiJiang suddenly sighed, “GuQingPei ah, I, YuanLiJiang had high hopes for you, giving you both my company and my son in hoping that you can guide them in the right direction. The company, you managed it very well. But my son, how could something like this happen between the two of you? YuanYang is young, he doesn’t understand things, but you….how could you also not understand? You are such a smart person, how could you do something like this?”
GuQingPei’s hoarsely muttered, “Chairman Yuan, I’m sorry.”
“You’re an understanding person. I also don’t want to say more. You’ve been working in the company for nine months; I’ll pay you a year’s salary. After the year, you can prepare to resign.”
GuQingPei didn’t say a word.
“Why are you not saying a word? Not willing?” YuanLiJiang’s eyes exuded cold air as he lowly exclaim, “Director Gu, I don’t care whose taking the responsibility, but this matter must be resolved immediately. I have always appreciated you. But not only have you shamed me, you’ve also hurt me deeply. Toward you, I have been extremely patient and tolerant. You still need me to say more?”
GuQingPei lifted his head and with great willpower, softly responded, “I understand.”
YuanLiJiang was silent for half a second, “YuanYang seems to like you a lot. How are you going to handle this?”
GuQingPei’s body trembled, as if a fishbone had gotten stuck in his throat.
“How to handle this?” YuanLiJiang’s voice is firm and forceful, giving people tremendous pressure. Looking at GuQingPei, his eyes could also pierce through people.
How to handle this?
GuQingPei also wanted someone to give him an answer.
He also wanted to know, the matter between him and YuanYang, how should it be handled?
When he thought of YuanLiJiang finding out about them and that he (YuanLiJiang) would never agree to his son being with him, a man that is 11 years older, GuQingPei felt extreme anxiety. This extent of panic is something he’s never experienced before.
If he felt such immense pain in breaking up with YuanYang, how should he handle this?
YuanLiJiang stared at him fixedly, forcing him to give an answer.
