Tit For Tat (Beloved Enemy) - Chap 72
Beloved Enemy Chapter 72
FEBRUARY 14, 2019 ~ ROSYSPELL
YuanLiJiang opened his mouth, “You can think about it, I’ll give you…”
“I don’t need to think about it.” GuQingPei calmly looked at YuanLiJiang, “Chairman Yuan, I came to Beijing when I was 18 years old. I’ve worked hard in this city for 15 years. This place use to be full of my dreams and ambitions. It took me more than 10 years to get out of my comfort zone in this city to get to where I am today. Although this is still nothing in your eyes, I’ve struggled and fought hard for every bit of it. My family, my friends, my social networks, and my career are here. This is my 15 years of accumulation. I can’t give up any of it. Moreover, it only takes me 1.5 hours of flight to see my parents. I don’t want to go anywhere that would make them worry.”
YuanLiJiang looked at him expressionlessly, “So you’re telling me that you’re not willing to leave?”
GuQingPei shook his head “I won’t go anywhere. Anyway, even if I left the country, YuanYang is not short on money for a plane ticket.”
YuanLiJiang raised his eyebrows, “As long as I don’t permit it, YuanYang would not be able to leave this country for the rest of his life. Director Gu, right now, I still want to resolve this problem with you peacefully. I hope you could understand the feelings of a father. I’m not preventing you from ever coming back, just need… two years. Don’t come back within two years. I believe that with YuanYang’s childish nature, he will sooner or later forget about you.”
GuQingPei forcefully smiled, “Two years… Chairman Yuan, is two years short? My parents are already over 60. I don’t have very many ‘two years’ with them.”
YuanLiJiang looked at him gloomily, “You won’t agree regardless? You’re a smart person, are you really determined to make such a decision?”
GuQingPei sighed and looked at YuanLiJiang for the first time since the incident, “Chairman Yuan, if Beijing is no longer feasible, I can still go back to my hometown. I, GuQingPei, will not starve to death anywhere. I don’t want to trouble you.”
YuanLiJiang narrowed his eyes, “GuQingPei, I’ve always admired you. I don’t want to have to deal with you. Don’t force me.”
GuQingPei retorted, “Chairman Yuan, I’ve been in your company more or less for almost a year. Everything within your company, no matter how big or small, I know everything. Am I forcing you or are you forcing me now?”
YuanLiJiang smirked and smiled, “Fine. GuQingPei indeed is GuQingPei.”
GuQingPei looked at YuanLiJiang, “Chairman Yuan. The matter with YuanYang, I feel ashamed toward you. I’ve decided to break up with him. I hope that you won’t push me too far, otherwise both sides will suffer. This is not necessary. You say, isn’t this so?”
“Since this is the case, there is no need to continue on with this conversation. GuQingPei, you make the best of it.” YuanLiJiang turned and walked toward the door.
“Chairman Yuan, take care.” GuQingPei stood woodenly in place, silently staring out of the windows, his eyes gradually going from confusion to clarity.
YuanYang endured it for an entire day. In the end, he couldn’t bare it any longer. He called GuQingPei but the phone was turned off. He felt uneasy so he continued to make numerous calls in the next two hours, calling both cell phone and landline, but both could not get through.
YuanYang finally couldn’t sit still. He grabbed his keys wanting to go back to take a look. Just as he got downstairs, he was forced back by YuanLiJiang’s grim expression.
YuanLiJiang shook the newspaper in his hands and coldly say, “Just one day and you already can’t control yourself? Doing this is for you to cool down, isn’t it?”
YuanYang whispered, “Dad, what’s the point of doing this? I’m not going to change just because I don’t see GuQingPei for a few days.”
“You truly can’t change anything. Do you really think that GuQingPei will play house with a stupid kid like you? He had no intentions to continue on with you at all. He has already awakened and sobered up.”
YuanYang clenched his fist, “How did you know that? Did you go find him?”
“You still need to ask?” YuanLiJiang gave him a chilling look.” Will GuQingPei give up his reputation, his status, and all his achievements from his many years of struggles to be in love with you? Don’t you feel that this is ridiculous yourself?”
YuanYang’s body slightly trembled, “No matter what you say, I will not give him up.” He grabbed his keys, opened the door and left.
YuanLiJiang indifferently looked at his back, until he disappeared. He sighed softly, then pulled out his phone and dialed a series of numbers.
With the New Year’s holiday ending tomorrow, there are still many people on the streets. YuanYang clutched the steering wheel and stepped on the gas pedal. He could not wait to get to GuQingPei.
Every word that his dad said, hits him right in the center core of his heart’s anxiety.
He was more worried than anyone else. His weight in GuQingPei’s heart was too light, so light that GuQingPei is not willing to take any substantial losses for him.
In GuQingPei’s heart… after all, what does he amount to?
After rushing to GuQingPei’s home, as expected, there was no one home. YuanYang found a brief note on the table that GuQingPei left him. The words written were simply a few sentences, “I’m going to my family’s home to be with my parents. YuanYang, I have no way to tell you in front of your face. We’re not suitable for each other, let’s end it.”
The green veins on his forehead visibly protruded as he fiercely scrunched the note into a ball. He felt only excruciating pain in his chest, his eyes shot out a penetrating cold haze.
He stuffed the note into his pocket, and went downstairs to drive toward the airport.
He went to the counter and bought a flight ticket to Chengdu. Then lowered his head and walked toward the security checkpoint, not even bringing anything with him.
With his head down, wearing a black coat and both of his hands in his pockets, his whole body was filled with indescribable chilliness. The passengers in front of him consciously walked around him.
He was stopped by two staff members at the security checkpoint. His expression and his temperament were too abnormal. He didn’t seem to be here to take a flight, more like to chop (kill) someone.
“Sir, please take off your coat.”
YuanYang looked at the security guard coldly, then took off his coat and threw it on the conveyor belt.
The security guard looked at him nervously, “What about your luggage?”
“Don’t have any.”
“You have nothing?”
YuanYang looked at him impatiently, then ignoring them, walked passed to the security gate.
Since they couldn’t find anything wrong on him, the security guards had no choice but to watch him walk away.
YuanYang was in a hurry and couldn’t wait to see GuQingPei in the next second. He needed to throw this piece of paper in GuQingPei’s face. He needed to ask GuQingPei, who gave him the guts to break up with him using such light-hearted words.
He found GuQingPei’s home at 7pm that evening.
This is a very ordinary apartment building, looking somewhat old but the location is very good. Downstairs is a lively market and commute is very convenient. It’s a very lively community.
He looked up to the third floor. The lights are on. GuQingPei should be there, as well as his parents.
What should he say after going up? Standing downstairs of GuQingPei’s family home, thinking that they are merely a few tens of meters away. His steps are a bit slow.
He didn’t want to see GuQingPei’s cold indifferent expression and he didn’t want to hear words that he didn’t like from his mouth. GuQingPei had already made his decision; it’s just that he (YuanYang) could not accept it at all.
What his dad said is right. GuQingPei will not give up all his achievements for him. This is what he absolutely didn’t care about. It is the biggest contradiction between them.
Why would he fall for such a person like GuQingPei, who is exactly opposite of him?
GuQingPei is obviously the type of people he most disliked. From the first day they met, he thought GuQingPei was not pleasing to the eyes and wanted to suppress him. But why is it that in the end, he only wanted to share his tribulations, to hold firmly onto him and not give him to anyone else.
What is wrong with him?
He wiped his face, his eyes tired. Wrapping his arms around his clothes tightly, he walked upstairs.
There is no elevator in the old-style building but the lights in the hallway didn’t seem very old at all, it is particularly bright. Obviously, this is an apartment that is still carefully maintained.
He stood in front of the newly-changed security door, frozen for a long time before he finally rang the doorbell.
A middle-aged woman opened the door and looked at him directly across the security door, asking him who he is looking for in a Sichuan dialect.
YuanYang looked at this woman, her facial features look very much like GuQingPei. His heart generated a kind of indescribable familiarity. Raising the stiffened corners of his mouth, he tried to smile but his muscles seemed to be frozen. Without success, he could only say, “Auntie, I’m looking for GuQingPei.”
“Oh? You are QingPei’s …….”
When YuanYang was about say something, the door was completely opened. GuQingPei was standing behind his mother looking at him slightly surprised, “How did you find my family’s home?”
The fist that was in his pocket unconsciously clenched as he lowly responded, “Your family mailed things to Beijing.”
Shorthand is a fairly ordinary skill he learned while in the troops. Everything relating to GuQingPei, he almost remembered it all.
Mother Gu’s eyes were scurrying, full of suspicion, “QingPei, who is this boy? Aiyah, he’s so tall, this boy…”
“Is my…subordinate.”
“Oh oh, please come in.” Mother Gu opened the door, smiling as she invited YuanYang into the house.
GuQingPei stepped in front of YuanYang, grabbing his jacket from the hanger, calmly looked at YuanYang, “Let’s go out and talk.”
YuanYang’s pupils dilated into furious rage as he looked at him without moving.
Mother Gu noticed something wrong between the two people and hesitated to say, “QingPei, it’s cold outside, let him come in.”
YuanYang’s unwavering eyes stared at GuQingPei, at the same time said to Mother Gu, “Auntie, I am not his subordinate. I am his boyfriend.”
GuQingPei’s eyes widened.
Mother Gu also looked at YuanYang in astonishment, with a hint of awkwardness on her face, “Ah, ah, this…”
GuQingPei’s face turned gloomy, “YuanYang, don’t go too far.”
With one step, YuanYang went into the house, “What did I say wrong?”
GuQingPei’s father came out of the room, put a cigarette in his mouth and looked at them creasing his brows, “Come on in, since he’s already here, how can you kick someone out, come in.”
GuQingPei’s expression was livid as he took a few steps back allowing YuanYang to enter the house. He faintly sighed and looked at YuanYang’s back, his heart becoming increasingly pained.
Mother Gu kindly smiled, “We’re in the middle of eating dinner. What a coincidence. Usually I know to cook just enough but for some reason I cooked more today. Maybe it was for you? Child, what is your name?”
“I’m YuanYang.”
“Oh, YuanYang, not bad.” Mother Gu looked at YuanYang up and down, “You’re really handsome. You’re really young. You must be a few years younger than QingPei.”
Father Gu cough, “Go and get another set of utensils.”
Mother Gu smiled as she walked into the kitchen.
GuQingPei sat in front of the table, his expression very pale, not looking at YuanYang nor his parents, just lowering his head to look down at the bowl of white rice.
Father Gu extinguished his cigarette and looked at YuanYang. His expression unnaturally smiled, “Oh, finally there is this day, finally ahhhh…”
GuQingPei whispered, “Dad, I’ll explain it to you later.”
“What is there to explain? Isn’t he your boyfriend? I’ve said before. You can bring him back. I’m not going to do anything to him.”
Mother Gu came out with a bowl and a pair of chopsticks, smiling as she put it in front of YuanYang, “Indeed, there is finally this day, QingPei, you need to have a stable partner, only then can we be a bit rest assured. You should have brought this child back earlier to let us see him.”
GuQingPei reluctantly sighed, “Mom, it’s not what you think.”
YuanYang stared at him unwaveringly, “Then, what is it?”
Father Gu looked at them and patted his thighs, “Oh, did you guys have an argument? A few days ago you said you needed to go back to work. Now you’re saying that you don’t have to work, I already thought that was strange.”
GuQingPei did not want to say anything more in front of his parents. He softly muttered, “Let’s just eat first.”
Mother Gu poured a glass of wine for YuanYang, “This rice wine was brewed by myself, it’ll warm you up when you drink it.”
YuanYang lifted a glass of wine and watched the misty white liquid. His nose smelled a brewed scent of wine. GuQingPei’s parents are modest and gentle as the brewed wine; however, GuQingPei is like a wine that is difficult for people to possess. Just taking a sip is enough to burn the heart and lungs, yet one is unable to stop drinking.
