When he arrived at the company on the next day, before he even got to eat breakfast, WangJin called him into the office.
GuQingPei had expected what WangJin would say to him, so he was prepared to take responsibility.
WangJin smiled slightly and pointed to the couch, “Have a sit.”
GuQingPei sat down, “Wang Ge, what’s the matter?”
“I’ve thought about it last night and I think that you should still manage the bidding project.” WangJin smiled, “Firstly, you are the person most familiar and knowledgeable about this. The entire bidding document is prepared by you. The team was also led by you. Even if you’ve only came to this company for a short period of time, everyone is completely convinced by you. To tell you the truth, changing a new lead in the midst of this, I really don’t have a suitable person.”
GuQingPei wanted to open his mouth to say something, but WangJin interjected, “Secondly, you and YuanYang have a personal relationship after all, so it’s certainly more convenient for you to deal with him since you understand him.”
GuQingPei maintained his composure, “Wang Ge, it is because I have a personal relationship with him that is why I’m not suitable.” WangJin would actually go so far as to let him deal with YuanYang. GuQingPei felt a twinge of guilt, “Wang Ge, I’m sorry, but I swear. I absolutely did not conspire with YuanYang to deceive you. I really had no idea that he is the partner of ZhongXian. I didn’t do anything that would be detrimental to the company. It’s just that, because of me, the company have experienced losses. I can’t absolve myself from this blame.”
WangJin’s eyes stared unflinchingly at GuQingPei’s face for a long while. He said, “Fine, I believe you, but I don’t want you to have any lingering feelings for YuanYang.”
GuQingPei lowered his eyes and said, “Wang Ge, I can’t explain it to you but I’m serious about resigning. I’ve thought about it for a long time. I…”
WangJin gloomily responded, “Resign? What do you mean?”
“Wang Ge, the matters with YuanYang and I have severely affected my job. Furthermore, it has now directly impacted the company’s interests. I really can’t stay here any longer.”
WangJin broke out into laughter, “You want to tell me that YuanYang was going against me because of you?” He really can’t help but feel how ridiculous this reason is. It seems absurd to him for anyone to do something so impulsive because of a relationship. But looking at GuQingPei’s expression, he realized that he was not joking.
WangJin shook his head and lightly smiled, “QingPei, what should we say you are? A man who brings disaster to another man who is involved with him (T/N)?”
T/N 紅顏禍水, the idiom here actually refers to femme fatale- an attractive and seductive woman, especially one who will ultimately bring disaster to a man who becomes involved with her. But in this context of the story, this female is a male, so the wording is changed accordingly to reflect this.
GuQingPei laughed at himself, “Wang Ge, don’t ridicule me. I only hope that you can forgive me.”
“You want me to forgive you…” WangJin forcefully smile, “You might as well ask whether I have been willing to blame you. After all, you have disappointed me.”
GuQingPei sighed, “Wang Ge, I’m especially apologetic toward you….I will pay the full amount for the breach of contract, I really …. don’t want to cause you anymore trouble.”
WangJin patted his face, “I haven’t yet agreed to this.”
“Wang Ge…”
“I can’t comprehend what is exactly in YuanYang’s mind, but he, who’s a well-known hooligan in the city of Beijing, and you who’s a cultured-refined person; you’re only suitable to use your brain, not physical force. It is not surprising that you aren’t able to go against him. But because of this, you’re going to resign? I can’t accept it. What do you plan to do after resigning? ”
“I’m planning to … go to Singapore. I have a college classmate venturing into entrepreneurship. The company is already very large. I can go anytime.”
It seems that leaving temporarily is his only way out, but he can’t accept YuanLiJiang’s invitation, otherwise he’d really be considered an ungrateful person. “You have a company in Singapore?”

GuQingPei felt slightly awkward.
“I’m the major shareholder of that company, but she’s managing it. Her abilities are limited. The company is barely getting by. If you go there, it’s perfect to help her out. Also, my two children are in Singapore. We can also meet often. QingPei, I won’t agree with you resigning. If you really don’t want to stay in Beijing, this is the best arrangement I can give you. Your salary will be no different from here.”
For the first time, GuQingPei could not continue on with this talk with WangJin. He lowered his head, with his voice hoarse, “Wang Ge, don’t keep treating me so well.”
“I’m not doing it all for you. The business in Singapore, my wife has always been disinterested and I also don’t have the time to manage it. If you go there, the business can certainly develop. This is also a win-win situation. Who tells me to like you?”
GuQingPei felt touched for the first time.
WangJin is completely different from YuanYang. The way in which he expresses his feelings naturally will be very different. WangJin may not be as persistent as YuanYang, but he is rational and practical. After fully considering his affections, although GuQingPei’s heart could not be swayed, he still feels at ease.
