Tit For Tat (Beloved Enemy) - Chap 95
On the way, GuQingPei discussed with his Chief Financial Officer to get a full understanding the situation. Afterwards, he felt even more unsettled.
They have already spent more than 200,000 yuan on public relations to get this loan. The money was mainly spent on a particular vice director who is responsible for the financing of Bank X, but they did not expect this old man to be so ungrateful. He was immediately to be transferred, yet still patted his chest to reassure them that there would be no problems. Taking the money and enjoying the free entertainment, yet when he was transferred, he merely stood on the sidelines and did nothing.
The newly appointed vice director is a returning Ph. D from abroad in his early forties. What he wanted was future prospects; the monetary attraction was not greatly appealing to him. So right when he assumed office, whether it he was trying to establish prestige or to be strict, he re-audited all the recent mortgage loans that was currently in progress. This move was not directly aimed at them, just that he found some deficiencies in their conditions. These deficiencies could have been well concealed if the former vice director did not leave.
So now there is such a problem that has caused him a great deal of headache.
His company currently is in need of capital in all areas. A project that will be launched next month will almost exhaust all of the company’s cash flow. If they don’t have the capital by the end of the month, the company will face a breach in the funding chain. At that time, he can only use his own money to fill in the gap. Even though this is not a crisis that can’t be solved, GuQingPei still hoped to avoid it completely because using that resolution method is too passive.
GuQingPei met with the project manager of the financing department in a café on a street opposite of the Bank X’s headquarters. He has a good relationship with this person. They have had dealings for several years and have cooperated very well. It’s best to find him to understand the situation.
Sure enough, it is along the lines of what GuQingPei had guessed. When this new vice director took office, he re-examined the documents brought for his review. He’s obviously a very cautious person that is particularly strict on details. To pass his level of scrutiny, unfortunately, there is going to be a lot of re-work.
The project manager also said that recently the country’s policies on real estate has hit the industry particularly hard. Now that the land can’t be sold and the commercial housing is unmarketable, many people choose to use it as collateral to cash out from the bank. So at this time, it would be difficult to get a loan because there are too many waiting for money.
In other words, this implies that there is minimal chance of securing the funds.
GuQingPei is a bit frustrated, but this setback did not affect his judgment. He immediately asked someone to investigate the vice director’s whereabouts to see what methods he could use to appease him.
After the conversation ended, he rushed to go see someone. In the car, he called several subordinates, explaining the work that needs to be done in order for him to take actions from various directions, sparing no effort.
When the call was over, GuQingPei took a long deep breath, leaned back against the seat and close his eyes.
The Chief Financial Officer looked over at GuQingPei and forcibly smiled, “Director Gu, you have worked hard.”
GuQingPei half-squinted his eyes and smiled, “That, I should. You shouldn’t be discouraged. You’re the lead for this financing. Be positive. The company has just started out. It’s reasonable to be encountering problems. Once this crisis is over with, all will be good. You need to fully believe in yourself.”
“I will. You can be rest assured.”
GuQingPei met with a leader again in the afternoon to negotiate the capacity rate. Because it is a private company and there are policy restrictions, he can only agree to give him a 3.0 capacity rate. Although this rate is unlikely to give him a loss (deficit) but the profit is not comparable to what he originally anticipated. GuQingPei is definitely not willing to agree so the negotiation did not go as smoothly.
In the evening, he had the driver randomly drive him to a place to eat dinner. As he was eating, WangJin called. It was because he had heard of the news so he called to express his condolences.
GuQingPei said helplessly, “You sure get your news fast.”
“That’s a must. How can I do business if I don’t get news fast enough? I’ll help find someone for you over here but I heard that the fellow was transferred over from the west side. The organization’s relationship on this side is very unreliable. I might not be able to find the acquaintance but let me check.”
“Okay, thank you, Wang Ge.”
WangJin smiled, “I’ve also heard that you have met up privately with YuanYang.”
GuQingPei sneered, “How did you even know about that?”
“YuanYang personally told me. This guy. It’s likely he’s still pissed off at me for sending him those pictures years ago. I bumped into him last night at Minister Chen’s dinner.”
GuQingPei softly asked, “What did you guys talk about?”
“What else can we talk about? We never got along. Two years, it’s always been like this. Recently we competed again for a piece of land that was being auctioned.”
GuQingPei reluctantly said, “It’s been hard for you.”
“It’s really nothing. Just too many things on my mind that gives me a headache. It’s not bad. The financing issue, if you’re really short of money, I can help you, but my company is also short on cash flow so I can only lend you one to two million at most.”
GuQingPei said, “Wang Ge, you already helped me a lot, I want to thank you in advance but I will not give up until the last moment. I still prefer to solve the problem by myself.”
“I understand. Put a little more effort ok? Hope this is going to be a big thing… Ahh, oh yeah, will you be coming to the auction?”
“Huh?”
“The auction I told you about is this Friday. It’s a large-scale auction with three plots of land and 11 asset bundles. To be honest, I want all of it. But my funds are limited, adding on, that guy, YuanYang, will definitely go against me. I’m conservatively estimating that at most it would be nice to win up to two items. But it’s all good things. Come and take a look. I can introduce several people to you. They might be able to help you.”
GuQingPei hesitated for a moment, but before he can respond, WangJin added, “It can’t be because you’re afraid of YuanYang that you wouldn’t dare to come, right?”
Even if GuQingPei did have such a thought, he wouldn’t reveal it. He smiled, “What are you saying? I’m just thinking whether or not I have other plans this Friday.”
WangJin lowly laughed, “Oh, you have something going on that time?”
GuQingPei responded, “I’ll postpone it even if there is. I really want to go take a look.”
WangJin ridiculed, “You can also take a very good look to see how deep YuanYang’s resentment to me is.”
On Friday, GuQingPei did not use his driver, instead drove himself to the auction.
Their company now has only two chauffeurs to be used solely for business purposes. In trying to save costs during the startup phase of the company, senior executives, including a Director like himself do not have full-time drivers. In the past, GuQingPei was a person who liked extravagance, however, now he no longer cared.
When GuQingPei got to the auction site, WangJin had already arrived. He walked over to greet him and sat beside him.
The auction participants continued to enter one after another. After a while, there was a commotion in the doorway, GuQingPei turned his head over. Not surprisingly, he sees YuanYang.
YuanYang had brought at least three people, all following behind him, all impeccably dressed, and exhibiting an aurora of confidence. Several people stood up at the time and rushed to the door to chat with him.
At the same time, YuanYang looked up and sees GuQingPei not far away, his expression gloomy and intense.
GuQingPei only swept him a glance and looked away to focus on the information relating to the auction parcels and asset bundles.
A young master next to WangJin whispered into his ears and mockingly said, ” This little punk is really something, now pretending to be all that.”
Although his voice is very low, GuQingPei can still hear it clearly.
Previously, the people in the Capital’s privileged circle had a joking mentality toward this good-for-nothing trouble-making ex-soldier of the Yuan family. No one thought that YuanYang would have such a day. Those that are jealous and envious are countless.
The corners of GuQingPei’s mouth lightly rise in a smile with a touch of indifference. He can sense that WangJin is watching his reaction, but he showed no response.
After a while, GuQingPei heard the sounds of footsteps to his side. Right when he turned his head, he saw YuanYang standing in front of him, his tall stature concealing the glowing light on top of GuQingPei’s head.
“What a coincidence, Director Gu,” YuanYang had his hands in his pants pockets, looking at him in a condescending arrogant manner.
GuQingPei wanted to stand up, but after some thought, he remained seated and just casually smiled, “It’s really a coincidence, Director Yuan seems to be everywhere these days.”
WangJin narrowed his eyes to look at them and coolly asked, “Director Yuan, you’re blocking my light, why don’t you sit down?”
YuanYang glanced at WangJin, looking at him the same way, “Oh, is this Director Wang and Chairman Xue on your side?”
The man who had just called YuanYang a little punk, stood up with a smirk on his face to shake hands with him. As GuQingPei observed, the two men may have had some conflicts.
YuanYang crudely sat down next to GuQingPei, a gush of heated air radiated near GuQingPei’s ears, “Isn’t WangJin the one that seems to be everywhere?” His tone revealed a breadth of danger.
The volume of his voice was just loud enough for WangJin to hear. WangJin’s eyes were grim but the smile on the corners of his mouth didn’t change.
GuQingPei lightly laughed, “Director Yuan’s control is pretty broad.”
“You’re right. It’s just a bad habit of mine that can’t change. Who told me that I used to be your man?”
WangJin clenched his fist and narrowed his eyes the same way as YuanYang. It was no accident that he could see YuanYang’s provoking expression. He was openly taunting him.
GuQingPei ignored him and just sat upright, trying to distance himself, looking straight ahead.
The staff was making the final preparation for the auction. After a while, the auction officially began.
